1 Week Sugar Challenge

The Holidays are here and with them come a lot of sweets in your house, in your office, at the various parties you will attend, etc!  It is now believed that processed sugar rich foods are the leading cause of many of our society’s most common degenerative diseases, including obesity in children and adults, type 2 diabetes, chronic inflammation and even cancer. The bottom line is that we need to get it out of our lives, or at least find effective strategies to consume significantly less. Our December challenge help to kick start this transition and give you an excuse to pass on the sweets for the week!

Sugar Challenge options:

Level 1:  This is for those who are used to consuming sugar on a regular basis.  For the week, your challenge is to avoid the major added sugars:

  • Cane Sugar (white sugar, brown sugar), Sucrose, Glucose, Corn syrup, and High fructose corn syrup

What this means: you will have to look at labels for the ingredients listed above but you can pretty much assume that this is going to eliminate most sweets: soda, candy, baked sweets, package sweets, etc.

Level 2:  This is for those who are already avoiding most sugar on a regular basis.  For the week your challenge is to avoid added sugar, the more unsafe artificial sweeteners, and naturally occuring sugar.

  • Cane Sugar (white sugar, brown sugar), Sucrose, Glucose, Corn syrup, High fructose corn syrup, Fructose, Brown Rice Syrup, Coconut sugar, Maple sugar, honey, Splenda, Nutrasweet, Equal.

What this means: No fruit, no sweets unless they have been prepared with xylitol, strevia, or erythritol.

Level 3: This is for those who really want to push themselves to the highest level.  For the week your challenge is to avoid ALL sugar, added, natural, and artificial.

  • Cane Sugar (white sugar, brown sugar), Sucrose, Glucose, Corn syrup, High fructose corn syrup, Fructose, Brown Rice Syrup, Coconut sugar, Maple sugar, honey, splenda, equal, nutrasweet, xylitol, stevia, erythritol etc

What this means:  No sweet tasting ANYTHING natural, artificial, etc for 1 week.

The challenge will  start the morning of Sunday December 8th and run for 1 week ending on Saturday Evening December 15th.
