Leading from the front: Bentley’s Member of the Month Story

Leading from the front: Bentley’s Member of the Month Story

After Bentley's amazing feat of doing 443 squats during March Madness's 10 minute squat challenge (that's an average of 44 squats/minute!), she was a shoe in for the KORE staff's member of the month vote.  For those of you who do not know the ten minute squat challenge, it’s pretty simple: how many times can you squat to touch a medicine ball and stand back up in 10 minutes. It’s a hard test that leaves you a little weak in the knees for a few days after.   But it’s also a test that challenges you to push through screaming and aching legs and eek out a few more squats, it tests your ability to put mind over matter. Over the years we’ve only had one male break 400, Michael Covert in 2017 with 412 squats. To date, Bentley is the first female at KORE to ever break 400 and she crushed Michael’s gym record by 31 squats!!!

Our reason for voting for Bentley is not just because of her athletic prowess, but for her amazing ability to lead from the front and push her fellow classmates without ego or arrogance.  She's a team player in the best sense of the word, she’s kind, supportive, enthusiastic, and she’s not satisfied with a sub par performance from herself. In Bentley’s presence, the whole class seems to gain energy and confidence for pushing their own workouts!

Bentley is the neighbor of one of our founding members, Winkie who encouraged her to come try out KORE.  When Bentley and I first talked in 2015, she was recently out of law school and getting settled into adult life.  She was concerned about how to manage her health while having a sedentary job. Bentley’s an avid runner, but running the same amount she always had wasn’t enough to combat her inactivity at work.  Since running more wasn’t an appealing solution and she wanted to get stronger, she decided to take Winkie up on her suggestion and give KORE a try.

Since Bentley joined KORE, I’ve seen an amazing change in her physique, she’s stronger, and a lot more developed in her upper body.  She’s also participated in some of the KORE food challenges and improved the way she eats, and she’s clearly solved the problem of combating the effects of her desk job because she’s the fittest lawyer I know!  It’s been a pleasure watching this growth from an already fit and health conscious individual to a super human wellness machine!

Want to find out more about Bentley’s journey from her own words?  Check out her responses below!

Q: How did you originally hear about us?

A:  My next door neighbor recommended I join KORE and took me to Saturday joint mobility class.

Q: What was your initial goal when you originally signed up with us?

A: My initial goal was to getting a stronger and more toned upper body.

Q: What was holding you back from achieving this goal before you joined?

A: I was a runner and it only worked my lower body. Plus, it got boring to run everyday.

Q: Has this goal changed since you joined KORE wellness? If yes, what is your goal?

A: My goal now is to work on core strength and definition.

Q: Now that you’re working on/have achieved this goal, has your view of yourself changed?

A: Yes, I feel more confident.

Q: How do you feel about your future health?

A: I feel like I am putting myself in a good position, future health wise. I plan to continue to workout everyday in some form or fashion, adapting as needed to an aging body.

Q: What have you liked best about working with us?

A: The people that work at KORE and go to KORE are what make it what it is.

Q: What would you say to someone who is struggling with the same goals?

A: I would say, join KORE! If it’s someone at KORE, I’d say you should try to commit to going at least 3-4 days a week. It’s actually easier than going less frequently.
