From a double knee replacement and walking boot to pushing a sled, this is Ramona’s Member  of the month journey

Ramona initially came in for help getting her life back after two knee replacements.  She was worried about her lack of balance and was concerned that she was favoring her left side over her left because the left still bothered her.   With a furniture restoration business and a demanding garden, she wanted to be able to do all the things she needed and wanted to do without being limited by her physical abilities.

When she came in for her evaluation she couldn’t get off the floor without the use of a chair, her knees, hands, and foot were all bothering her.  Her training started out great with a lot of emphasis on regaining balance and functional movement ability. However, last fall we experienced a hiccup in her training.  With increasing pain in her foot, she went to the doctor for a consult. The doctor recommended that she wear a boot to reduce the pain. After 3 months in a boot and no change, we decided to think outside the conventional box revisit the issue with some soft tissue work on her calf.   Within a week, she was 95% out of pain and ready to resume her normal training. Since January, we’ve significantly ramped up her training and she’s always up for the next challenge! She’s out of pain, getting up and down from the floor without any assistance, pushing the sled and working on getting stronger with her lunges (on both legs)!   The sky is now the new limit for Ramona and I can’t wait to see the new heights she reaches.

How did you originally hear about us?

Another Kore member, Natalie Pope, told me about Kore and how much she liked going there.

What prompted you to seek us out once hearing about us?

After two knee replacements within three years and the process of aging I felt like my balance and flexibility were not what I hoped they could be. I was always pretty active but started feeling limited in what I could do.

What was your initial goal when you signed up with us?

I could not easily get down on the floor and if I did I needed something to pull myself up. I could not kneel on my knees. I wanted to be able to get up and down without having to depend on someone or something to get me up. I wanted to be able to walk up and down stairs without feeling like I might stumble. I wanted to improve my balance and flexibility, which I think is so important as we get older.

What was holding you back from achieving this goal (before you joined)?

With the knee replacements I started putting limits on what I did. I was still pretty active but not the kind of activity that keeps you flexible and strong. I would try doing exercises on my own but I knew I would need some structure and accountability to succeed.  After talking to Natalie a couple of times I decided that I would give Kore a try.

Has this goal changed since you joined KORE Wellness?  If yes, what is your new goal?

I have come a long way since joining Kore in accomplishing my goals but I want to improve on what I have achieved. Elise has been excellent in working with me and encouraging me to do my best.

Now that you’re working on/have achieved this goal, has your view of yourself changed?

Yes! It is a very comforting feeling to know that I have the core strength and flexibility to move more freely and not always worry about tripping or falling.

How do you feel about your future health?

My initial thought when joining Kore Wellness was to stay for a while and find a place to workout closer to home ( I drive 40 minutes each way) but after being here I know this is where I can get the training and encouragement I nee .  I know that strength and flexibility training is something that I need to do as long as my mind and body allow and I know I can get that at Kore.

What have you liked best about working with us?

Everyone is very friendly and knowledgeable. Elise has been super at encouraging and working with me on getting my goals accomplished.

After hurting my foot and being in a boot for 3 months Elise was instrumental in getting my foot back to normal.

What would you say to someone who is struggling with the same goal(s)?

Some days it is hard to get up and come in but the results are so rewarding. I come in the morning because I always feel so good when I leave and it makes my day. Just do it.
