7 steps to creating your own affirmations

What is your Mount Everest? “It’s the repetition of affirmations that leads to belief.  Once that belief becomes a deep conviction, things begin to happen” – Muhammad Ali This talk of affirmations may seem a little new age-y for some of you and to be honest, it was how I viewed it initially as well.  Since doing the Miracle Morning practice for the last 135 days, I have completely changed my view point about affirmations.  Some of the most successful people in the world like Muhammad Ali, Oprah, and Suze Orman have vocalized their use of affirmations and how much it has helped on their journey to to success.  I am currently reading a book called “Psycho-Cybernetics” by plastic surgeon by the name of Maxwell Maltz, this book dives deep into the psychology of the subconscious and how powerful the subconscious it.  It is absolutely fascinating!  Affirmation statements allow you to program your subconscious to a new or different mindset.  This new mindset (thoughts, beliefs, focus) can take you to the next level in any area of your life. Every single one of us has an unconscious stream of thought that runs non-stop through our heads, this internal dialog replays past experiences, opinions, and thoughts like 24-hour news cycle.  It is completely normal, but is is a process that each of us can groom into something beneficial by actively choosing positive and proactive thoughts that prompt us to grow as a person. Did you know that 80% of women have self-deprecating thoughts about themselves on a daily basis?   How they look, what someone thinks about them, how they rank up at work, how their spouse thinks of them… these thoughts run on through the subconscious thought reel in their heads. Self-talk has a dramatic influence on your outlook on life and therefore your success in life.  Self-talk can be a huge benefit or a huge detriment to the outcome of your goals, dreams, or just your day and you have a choice about how that will go.  By actively selecting your affirmations to directly relate to your desired outcome, you are choosing to take control of your subconscious.  Your subconscious is working for you 24 hours a day, and transforming your thoughts and feelings to mold your beliefs and behaviors.  By transplanting a specific affirmation statement on a regular basis, you can literally change your outlook on life! All of the people in my Miracle Morning group mention the effect that repeating affirmations had on various aspects of their lives, it was so exciting to see these individuals transform in a month’s time and listen to their excitement as they noticed the positive changes in the way they handled certain situations or issues.   1. Figure out what you really want for yourself.
  2. Decide whether or not you want it enough to commit to attain it
  3. Find or write an affirmation around your goals, add an inspirational quote to it if you like
  4. Find the time to say or read your affirmation statement 1-3x a day.
  5. State your affirmation as if you already have achieved it and be confident that you will achieve it
  6. Don’t be surprised if your affirmations change, mine have changed several times over the last months.
  7. Be patient, changing the subconscious is a slow process, give it time to work.
