May's Metabolic Reset Challenge

May's Metabolic Reset Challenge

In February, we focused on the gut, this month is all about the liver.  The liver is commonly associated with alcohol break down but it plays some major roles in the overall health of your body.   All the blood pumping through your body flows through your liver before going back to your heart. Your liver is processing your entire blood supply once every minute.  That’s a BIG job!

So what exactly is your liver doing?

Storage: The liver holds onto vitamins and minerals, immune cells, amino acids, fuel, and hormones.

Filtration: The liver regulates the ecosystem in our bodies, ensuring the environment within the skin stays safe, just like the filter in an aquarium.

Building and Conversion: Your liver is responsible for monitoring the flow of nutrients making things that are needed (like amino acids, fuel, and hormones), disposing of things that are in excess (like stress hormones and toxins)

Defense: Your defense system begins in the gut, but who is next in line? You guessed right!  Nearly everything entering your body from the intestines must back through the liver before it gets in.  Your not only does liver has its own defense system, but it also has an alert system to notify your immune system when there is an issue.

So now that you are aware of what your liver does to help you out, how do you know if your liver might need a little support?

  • Diet that promotes liver repair  - This 21 day reset will provide you with a menu of foods that break down the toxins built up in the liver, then get them out of the body.  The foods you will be eating will be high in a wide variety of phytonutrients, amino acids, and fiber. Your intake of nutrients that will make the liver have to work to detoxify like alcohol, processed foods, poor quality meats, and caffeine will be zero.

  • Low fuel levels to give the liver time to heal - Since all fuel has to be processed by your liver, this 21 day reset will use a low fuel formula.

  • Sleep debt payoff - Surprisingly, sleep is important to your metabolism and liver health.  High quality sleep is a must!
