Fighting Back with a Smile, Dave's Member of the Month Story

Fighting back with a smile, Dave’s Member of the Month Story

Dave came to us to learn more about the Rock Steady Boxing (RSB) for Parkinson's Program  as soon as he heard that we had started one. As the head of the speaker’s bureau for the local Parkinson’s Support group he has a great passion for bringing awareness of all aspects of the disease to the local community.  As a PD patient himself, he was interested in how the program would be of a benefit to himself. Since Dave’s first day in the program, we all noticed not only how hard he works, but also how great he is at supporting his fellow classmates.  Dave always has a great attitude, is enthusiastic and cheerful, which most who live around parkinson’s disease will know is extremely rare. I love greeting him at the door a couple times / week and watching him fight back against his disease with a huge, contagious  smile on his face.

Bryan: Dave is a great example of the RSB program's mantra of fighting the effects of Parkinson's disease. He participates in class with high energy and a positive attitude. Dave fosters a collegial environment with everyone in the program and welcomes new participants with enthusiasm. He is active in the local Parkinson's support group as a leader and participates on a national level in research work on the condition. As a coach, you want to stay alert when conducting mitt drills with Dave. He'll come at you with a tight jaw punching hard and fast!

How did you originally hear about us?  - heard that Kore Wellness was offering a Rock Steady boxing program for Parkinson’s patients

What prompted you to seek us out once hearing about us? – You were one of 2 facilities offering the program. Met with Elise who provided me with a good feeling about the training her staff was to undertake to train participants. This and the fact that your gym was closer

What was your initial goal when you signed up with us? – to improve my strength and flexibility. Rock Steady boxing IS actually the only thing (drug or no drug) to have a positive effect on PD

What was holding you back from achieving this goal (before you joined)? – the only thing holding me back was availability of the program which of course was rectified by you all.

Has this goal changed since you joined KORE Wellness?  If yes, what is your new goal? – I believe I am goal now is to continue to work hard and maintain benefits I receive.meeting my goal.

Now that you’re working on/have achieved this goal, has your view of yourself changed? – yes, I feel as though the hard work has helped and this makes me feel good. Provides motivation

How do you feel about your future health? – I feel that I can provide some input or control over my symptoms of PD which is atypical.

What have you liked best about working with us? – the staff (Elise, Kylie, Bryan, and others I have met). Your overall approach to health and well being beyond just a pair of dumb bells. The support your facitilty has shown for the Parkinson’s community. Commitment of Rock Steady trainers to the program

What would you say to someone who is struggling with the same goal(s)? – we all “start” at different levels. Do not be afraid if others at present may seem “more fit”.  You have to start somewhere. Just Do it.
