Jingle all the way challenge: an argument for Vigorous Activity

Please note: While vigorous exercise reduces the overall risk of cardiac events, the risk for individuals with existing cardiovascular risk is higher during bouts of high intensity activity, please clear any type of this kind of activity with a physician if you have risk factors for CVD such:

  • Family history of cardiovascular events

  • Men over 45, Women over 55

  • Sedentary (less than 3-30 minute sessions of aerobic exercise per week)

  • High blood pressure (At or above Systolic 130 and or Diastolic 80mmHg)

  • Current smoker or have quit less than 6 months ago

  • High cholesterol (Total at or above 200, LDL at or above 130, HDL at or below 40 men, 50 women

  • High blood sugar (Fasting at or above 100, HbA1c at or above 5.7%

  • Body mass index (At or above 30)

  • Waist circumference (at or above 40 inches men, 35 inches women

If you are cleared for vigorous intensity exercise, there is a growing body of evidence that suggests that regular vigorous intensity physical activity provides additional health benefits as well as increasing one’s ability to participate in a wide range of recreational activities.

These benefits include:

  • Increased protection from occurance of cardiovascular events

  • Greater reduction in existing cardiovascular disease

  • Greater improvements in Diastolic Blood pressure

  • Greater improvements in blood sugar regulation

  • Greater improvements in aerobic capacity

  • Better overall mood

  • Lower risk of mortality (all causes)

  • Higher rate of improvement in body composition
